Sinds maart 2020 zijn de sociale veranderingen in Europa duidelijker zichtbaar geworden. Geconfronteerd met de druk in de steden, zijn steeds meer mensen op zoek naar andere opties en manieren van leven buiten de steden. Het is alsof ze op zoek zijn naar manieren van samenleven die verloren zijn gegaan. De Spaanse dorpen bieden veel mogelijkheden, maar er is een gebrek aan mensen. Ze hebben infrastructuur, culturele rijkdom, boomgaarden, tradities, huizen etc.
Dit zijn video's uit een serie interviews met mensen uit Las Arribes del Duero in Spanje waarin duidelijk wordt of een parallelle samenleving haalbaar is en of dat hier in Spanje mogelijk is.

Desde marzo 2020 se ha vuelto más patente la existencia de cambios sociales en Europa. Ante la presión existente en las ciudades, cada vez más personas buscan otras opciones y formas de vivir fuera de ellas. Es como si buscaran unas formas de convivir que se han perdido. Los pueblos de España ofrecen muchas posibilidades, pero faltan personas. Tienen infrastructuras, riqueza cultural, huertos, tradiciones y hogares.
Son vídeos de una serie de entrevistas con personas de Las Arribes del Duero en España que revelan si es factible una sociedad paralela y si es posible aquí en España.
Hallo Venray - Matrix
In the 1980ies when we were living in a squatting house in The Hague, The Netherlands I had a darkroom where I printed my photos. It was in a large three floors building and we lived there as a community of six or seven people, amongst them were Henk, Peter en Toon of Hallo Venray. They had their rehearsal space in the cellar and I used to take photos of their rehearsals and our lives at home. Some of these pictures were used on the inner sleeve of their first album ‘You don’t hit a guy with glasses on’.
Almost fourty years later in 2022 we made a videoclip for their song ‘Matrix’ of the new album Coffee and Cake. Some things haven’t really changed, the images are quite similar to those from back then. However, the videoclip is less innocent than the photographs of these boys in their early twenties.

Ben de Groot - The Perfect Traveller
Shot on a hot summer night in August 2023 in El Borne, Barcelona.
We didn’t have a script nor a crew. We merely wandered through the narrow hot streets. Ben got himself entirely immersed with the camera and the flow was magical.
After a couple of hours recording we sat on a quiet square and had a cold beer.
