When the second world war broke out in The Netherlands my grandparents were a young couple who chose the side of the invaders and so became collaborators with the Germans. My grandfather got wounded in 1944 wearing the German uniform and was hospitalised until after the war.
At the end of the war my grandmother fled to Germany with her children of 3 years, 1,5 year and 2 months old.

My grandmother was demented during the last years of her life and suffered from hallucinations in which she was imagining being incarcerated again.
